Dating Resolutions: What Are Singletons Hoping the New Year Brings?

With the New Year around the corner, singletons everywhere set fresh resolutions for their love lives. From embracing self-confidence to prioritizing meaningful connections, 2025 offers the perfect chance to rewrite the dating script. With apps like Flure revolutionizing how we meet and match, singles are more optimistic than ever about finding their ideal partner. So, what do they hope this year will bring in the search for love? Flure explores!
Key takeaways:
  • While 57% of singletons are currently unhappy with their dating lives heading into 2025, 33% are optimistic about what the next year holds.
  • Some 35% of daters plan to seek casual connections, while 29% desire a long-term partner. For all daters, more sex is a top priority, with 34% seeking partners with matching libidos and 65% hoping to get more action in 2025.
  • Some 20% are open to lowering their standards to improve their dating prospects, while 35% are open to attending therapy.
  • Likewise, with real-world dating failing to produce results, 54% of singles would be open to exploring a virtual relationship. Online dating trends show that 19% plan to prioritize virtual romance in 2025.
Even with a wealth of apps designed to connect us, finding love remains elusive for many. With a vast spectrum of possibilities—polyamory and monogamy; gay, straight, or somewhere in between; in-person or online; casual or committed—figuring out what we truly want can feel daunting.

However, singletons aren’t letting a little tough love hold them back.

Flure surveyed 2,000 adults on their dating hopes and desires heading into the New Year. While 2024 hasn’t been the year of love for many, the results show that optimism is high heading into 2025—and daters are ready to explore.

Match or miss: How did daters fare in 2024?

We’re all searching for sparks and soulmates, but the past year was no fairytale for most daters when it came to finding the one (or multiple), with 57% admitting that they’re unhappy with their love life heading into 2025 and just 10% stating they’re truly happy.
But love is still in the air, with 33% of daters optimistic and 51% somewhat confident that Cupid will reward their persistence in 2025. After all, dating is a numbers game, and there are multiple worthy matches for everyone—you just need to find them.

The heart’s desire: What are singles seeking in 2025?

Perhaps dating is such a struggle because we’re all looking for something different. Setting a diverse range of dating resolutions, 35% of singles will seek casual connections in 2025, while 29% plan to search for their soulmate. Likewise, 21% have decided to go with the flow and see what the New Year has to offer.
Shared interests (23%) and physical attraction (10%) still matter to daters today. However, nothing beats sexual chemistry. When it comes to meeting modern relationship standards, compatible libidos are a must-have.
The top sexual resolution? To have more of it, with 65% admitting more sex is their top desire heading into 2025. Others feel the same—but they aren’t turning to bars and dating apps to find a willing partner. Some 10% admit they are open to attending sex parties to get their fix, while 19% are open to trying something new, whether giving consensual non-monogamy a go or exploring new kinks.
Of course, more sex first requires meeting a suitable match—and more than a quarter of daters believe they’ve already found them, with 28% admitting they’re open to the idea of getting back with an ex in the New Year.

Is rekindling an old flame a good idea? It depends on why you broke up the first time. If they’ve already wronged you once, there’s a high chance they will again. However, if you were not in the right headspace or at different points in your lives, what’s the harm in giving it another go?

New year, new me: How are daters changing their strategies?

We often set ourselves unhealthily high expectations when it comes to dating—but you can’t have to find yourself an Instagram model or Prince Charming to have good sex or a fulfilling relationship.

While 61% of daters insist they won’t compromise on finding the match of their dreams, 20% are open to lowering their standards to improve their dating prospects.
If you’re struggling to land dates or keep relationships going, a little self-reflection might be in order, with 35% of daters planning to or already attending therapy.

By attending therapy for dating life support, daters can begin to identify their red flags, deepen their ability for intimacy, improve their confidence and communication skills, and address blockers in the bedroom.
If therapy doesn’t work? Perhaps it's time to loosen up and be a little more adventurous. While the vast majority (78%) of daters are monogamous, many are open to exploration. Some 54% of those monogamous daters are open to trying polyamory. After all, how do you know you don’t like it if you’ve never tried it?

Dating in the digital online: Are daters looking online for love?

There are plenty of fish in the sea, but if you live in a small pond, it isn't always easy to catch one you connect with. However, the internet has broadened our dating horizons and made it far easier to meet suitable matches.

Having dealt with enough failed dates and walking red flags in the real world, 54% of singles say they’re open to starting an online relationship.
While 81% of daters aren’t willing to pack in face-to-face interactions and physical touch, 19% admit they’re ready to shift their attention online, making virtual relationships through video calls and digital hangouts their top priority.

As 2024 wraps up, many still find themselves longing for love. But optimism remains, and singletons are willing to put in the work to achieve their short- and long-term relationship goals, whether meeting that special someone, finding a fling, or exploring something new. Heading into 2025, let’s hope Cupid delivers.

Methodology: The data in this report derives from a survey conducted by flure.com, which was launched in November 2024. In total, 2,000 people were surveyed, and all respondents took the full survey. The study included all genders, ethnicities, and age groups over 18.
